Female-Led Spirits Company Introduces New World Style Acrónimo Gin as a Follow Up to its Inaugural Sotol Blanco Release
CHIHUAHUA, Mexico, Oct. 22, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On the heels of the release of its award-winning Acrónimo Sotol Blanco comes the world's first gin finished with Sotol. Chihuahua, Mexico-based Acrónimo Spirits – led by 32-year-old founder Alessandra Camino Creel and her 33-year-old brother Jose Luis – today announced an exciting addition to its expanding portfolio with the launch of Acrónimo Gin. Already named "Mexican Gin of the Year" at the 2024 New York International Spirits Competition, New World Style Acrónimo Gin enters the ultra-premium gin market as Mexican spirits beyond tequila and mezcal rise in stature and popularity across the globe.
As with Acrónimo Sotol Blanco, Acrónimo Gin is made in cooperation with the Casa Ruelas Distillery, an award-winning fifth-generation Sotol producer. In a unique twist, Acrónimo Gin is finished with 17 percent Sotol Blanco as a nod to its Chihuahuan heritage. Crafted specifically to blend with a gin base, this Sotol Blanco is made from wild grown and harvested Dasylirion Wheeleri, a spiky flowering succulent in the asparagus family.
Juniper berries from the rugged Sierra Tarahumara mountainous region near Chihuahua join other locally sourced botanicals in making Acrónimo Gin, including cardamom, anise, white pepper, black pepper, red pepper, lavender, lemon, lime and grapefruit peel. Each botanical was carefully selected to complement and accentuate the earthy sweetness and herbal overtones of the Sotol finish.
To produce Acrónimo Gin, neutral grain spirit is infused with the hand-selected botanicals through maceration, steeping for 14 days. The infused liquid is then directly distilled in a traditional copper Sotol pot still handcrafted by a local Chihuahuan artist. A very precise cut of the heart of the distillate is selected to assure the perfect balance, which is then finished with the Dasylirion Sotol, creating a flavorful, one-of-a-kind spirit.
At 84 proof, the gin opens with vibrant citrus notes, harmoniously intertwined with the warm spice of cardamom. This is followed by a subtle smokiness, adding an intriguing layer of depth.
